WE DESIGN

WITH INTENT

Lucifer Lighting is multi-generational, family-owned company that grew out of a love for art, design, and engineering, and has deep roots in San Antonio, Texas.

The first fixtures we created were to illuminate the high-end designer apparel we carried in our Frost Brothers department stores - we designed lights that brought out the best in our products. Seeing an unmet need, Gilbert Mathews, our CEO and founder, became focused on creating the exceptional lighting fixtures that define our mission.

Our goal is to increase people's ability to see, enjoy, appreciate, and experience every nuance of special objects, fine art, haute cuisine, and unique spaces. It's all about creating lights that create experiences.

CREATIVE HEADQUARTERS
All design, manufacturing, production, and management takes place at our beautiful campus on the Salado Creek in San Antonio. This is where old-world craftspeople, degreed engineers, skilled machine operators, and the rest of our incredible staff came together in art filled offices, over high-tech machines, out on walking paths, and at fun Friday bar-be-cues, to create the world's best lighting fixtures.

All our products are designed, prototyped, and manufactured in the same place, which we believe creates the optimal convergence of inspiration, engineering, and quality control. Our 13-acre campus includes offices, a factory, and our four buildings dedicated to manufacturing, along with 20 miles of walking and biking trails along the Salado Creek.

We invest in the most advanced CAD software, CNC machinery, robotic assembly, and metal fabrication equipment for our staff so they can make products that meet the most exacting standards and we manage an around-the-clock manufacturing schedule accommodates aggressive timelines.

Our commitment to sustainability is expressed in our use of wind energy, xeriscaping, post-consumer recycled packaging, and daylighting throughout our buildings.

EXCEPTIONAL ENGINEERING
Take apart our fixtures. You'll find the same level of engineering and design effort goes into each and every component. This is how we ensure our fixtures will look, feel, and perform beyond our customers' expectations.

  • In-house quality control department inspects every component part, as well as 100% function testing of all finished goods
  • Machined components held to aerospace-grade tolerances
  • Paint thickness is kept to less than a sheet of paper
  • Key components are made of solid metal, instead of plastic or sheet metal commonly used by other manufacturers.

FLEXIBLE, QUICK-TURN MANUFACTURING
We are able to handle a wide variety of custom orders and meet aggressive timelines and can quickly scale up from custom prototypes to low volume custom orders, in house. For larger volume production requirements, we have long-standing relationships with partners who have earned our trust by happily accommodating our exacting standards.

A 40-YEAR
COMMITMENT

TO ART AND DESIGN

Our business began with an interest in illuminating the best designer products to bring out their beauty and quality. Our philanthropic organization has given substantial support to museums, visual and performing arts organizations, and offered funding to design and architectural associations and scholarships.

Our CEO and founder, Gilbert Mathews, is an honorary member of American Institute of Architects nationally. He collects postmodern and contemporary art with his wife Suzanne, and their personal arts collections adorn all parts our work environment, from the reception area through the manufacturing floor. Their daughters, Alexandra and Roselyn, both work in the business and had careers in communications and arts before joining their father at Lucifer Lighting.
